Liverpool have ‘made it clear’ that they want to sign Douglas Luiz if Aston Villa have any intention of selling the midfielder.

Arsenal now face a battle with Liverpool and Manchester City over the signing of Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz.

That is according to 90Min, who claim that the race to sign Luiz is now heating up ahead of the January window.

Villa continue to impress under Unai Emery and they look to be a real threat for a top four place this season.

One of the key performers has been Luiz, with the Brazilian midfielder turning in consistently excellent displays.

Liverpool show strong interest in Douglas Luiz

90Min now claim that Liverpool have made it clear that they want to sign Luiz if he becomes available.

The Reds signed four midfielders over the summer as Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch all arrived.

Liverpool would still like to add another holding midfield player though and Luiz appears to be on the radar.

Maybe this shouldn’t be a surprise; Liverpool wanted Luiz on deadline day back in September 2022 but missed out.

The Reds appear to have maintained that interest and will have no doubt been hugely impressed with his displays this season.

Roy Keane hailed Luiz as ‘absolutely brilliant’ after a superb assist Against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, with Liverpool surely paying close attention.

Arsenal face major battle for Luiz

Fabrizio Romano reported earlier in November that Arsenal had picked out Luiz as their top target for January, viewing him as the ‘perfect’ midfield addition.

Mikel Arteta and Edu have been long-term admirers of Luiz and Arsenal failed with three bids worth £20million, £23million and then £25million in 2022.

Villa are now in a position to demand well over £50million and news of other suitors just complicates Arsenal’s pursuit.

We can’t ignore Manchester City here either; Luiz was once on the City books and may feel that he has some unfinished business at the Etihad Stadium.

Kalvin Phillips is a cautionary tale for any midfielder heading to City but we could hardly blame the Brazilian for being interested.

We think Luiz will stay at Villa but the Premier League elite are starting to ramp up their interest.
