According to iNews, Liverpool are keeping tabs on Teun Koopmeiners ahead of a potential transfer bid.
This is a very interesting story, and it’s one that may well have a lot of weight behind it.
Of course, Liverpool do need a midfielder right now, and while they’re being linked to almost every player under the sun right now, there’s reason to believe that these Koopmeiners links are genuine.
Indeed, this isn’t the first time the Reds have been linked with the Dutch midfielder, back in 2021, Mundo Deportivo reported that the Merseyside club were keen on Koopmeiners, even going as far as to state that Jurgen Klopp believed the Atalanta midfielder could be the perfect replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum after his departure to PSG.

This does make these links sound more probable. After all, there has been a growing calls for Liverpool to sign a Wijnaldum-esque midfielder.
Indeed, Jamie Carragher made the case on Monday night that the Reds’ midfield is becoming too technical, and signing a player who has similar traits to Wijnaldum would solve that problem.
However, we have to question whether Koopmeiners is that player.
The Dutch midfielder is himself a very technically gifted footballer rather than a Wijnaldum-esque workhorse. He’s a player who is brilliant from dead-balls and his key stats appear to be his long balls and key passes rather than his defensive contributions – which are listed as a weakness on WhoScored.
However, regardless of the type of player he is, Koopmeiners is a very talented young man, and you can never go too far wrong when signing a player of this calibre, even if they don’t immediately fit into the role you had them earmarked for at one point.
Koopmeiners would be a great asset for Liverpool, and he could well end up being the Wijnaldum replacement the club have needed for quite some time.
