Liverpool now have Aston Villa midfielder Boubacar Kamara in their sights as Jurgen Klopp continues the rebuild of his engine room.
That is according to a report from Foot Mercato.
The French outlet states that Liverpool have Boubacar Kamara on their radar and really appreciate the fact that he is versatile.
While the 23-year-old has been playing in midfield for Villa, he is also capable of starting in central defence.
Liverpool remain in the market for midfield reinforcements after missing out on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to Chelsea.
As per The Athletic, the Southampton star has opted to join the Blues instead of their Premier League rivals and is now set to link up with Caicedo at Stamford Bridge.
It is a huge blow for Liverpool, though the Merseyside club have quickly moved on, with Sky Sports reporting that they have since made a bid for Stuttgart’s Wataru Endo.
Boubacar Kamara could be a smart signing for Liverpool
Kamara may not be Caicedo, but he is a footballer who still has a lot of appeal.
Again, he is someone who can play in more than one position, while his experience in the Premier League means he will not need to adapt to the division.
Kamara is also a France international and has the seal of approval from a Liverpool legend in Steven Gerrard, who brought him to Villa when he was still in charge of the Midlands club.
“I think we’ve signed a fantastic player with huge potential,” he told Villa’s official website after the former Marseille star’s arrival last year.
Kamara is probably not someone Unai Emery will want to lose. Bearing that in mind, he could be quite an expensive transfer.
However, if Klopp feels that he needs another midfielder on top of Endo, then Liverpool should consider making a move for Kamara.
