Liverpool learned their Champions League fate on Monday lunchtime, as they were drawn against RB Leipzig in the last 16 of the competition.

The Reds made it through their group, and will now have hopes of advancing deep into the competition under Jurgen Klopp once again.

Klopp will have to beat one of his compatriots though, as Liverpool have been drawn against RB Leipzig in a hugely exciting draw.

Both teams are high-energy, playing with a high-pressing style, with Leipzig now looking to show that they can really compete with the biggest clubs in the world.

Liverpool will be well aware of many Leipzig stars, but two players in particular may draw close attention from the Reds – and not just for this Champions League meeting.

Defenders Ibrahima Konate and Dayot Upamecano are both wanted by Liverpool according to Bild, with a new centre back understandably a top target for Liverpool.

With Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez injured, Liverpool may now look to one of Leipzig’s two French stars to bolster Klopp’s options, and this draw makes the situation very interesting.

Leipzig will surely be reluctant to sell either defender to Liverpool in next month’s transfer window, as they would be weakening themselves ahead of their games with the Reds.

Yet once they do play against Liverpool, the Reds will have a front row seat, viewing how the pair cope with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

One of them could end up earning a move to Merseyside at the end of the season depending on how they fare in the Champions League, with yesterday’s draw adding another layer of intrigue to these transfer rumours.
