After years of links, Liverpool may have found themselves in a prime position to finally secure the signing of Sander Berge from Sheffield United.
It was reported recently by The Athletic that Berge remains a player Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of, and now, Liverpool may have the perfect bargaining chip to do a deal for the Norwegian.
Indeed, reports have emerged claiming that Sheffield United have failed to make a payment for their 2021 signing of Rhian Brewster.
Sheffield United are currently under a transfer embargo, due to missed transfer payments, and Liverpool happen to be one of the teams they are indebted to.

This may mean that The Reds now have the perfect bargaining chip in their possession to make a deal for Berge happen.
Think about it, Sheffield United’s debt to the Merseyside club is holding them back, but if that debt were to be cancelled as a part of a deal for Berge, both parties would come out as winners.
Jurgen Klopp has reportedly been an admirer of Berge for some time, and the Norwegian international would add much-needed depth and competition in the midfield – especially as the likes of Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are now reaching the end of their contracts.
Liverpool, of course, have every right to demand their due payment from Sheffield United, but they would be wise to leverage their position of power over the Blades to try and strike a deal for Berge.
This would not only benefit Liverpool in the long run, but it would also ease the financial burden on Sheffield United, who are currently under EFL restrictions.
It has been reported that a takeover is in the offing at Bramall Lane, so Liverpool may not be in this position of power for very long.
It remains to be seen what Liverpool will decide to do, but one thing is for sure, the club’s bargaining power has increased, and they now have a unique opportunity to sign a talented midfielder in Berge on a deal that suits them.
