Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are now reportedly desperate to get a deal done for Romeo Lavia ahead of Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea.

According to The Guardian, Liverpool are trying to beat Premier League rivals Chelsea to the signing of Romeo Lavia from Southampton in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool have agreed a deal worth £60 million with Southampton for Lavia, but the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners now have to convince Lavia to make the move to Anfield.

The Reds have reportedly got indications that Lavia prefers a move to Chelsea.

Liverpool worried about Chelsea competition for Romeo Lavia

Chelsea have bid £55 million for the defensive midfielder and are trying to get a deal done.

The Guardian has claimed that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp “is desperate to strengthen his midfield”, adding that the Reds’ “need for reinforcements in the middle is urgent”.

Liverpool are set to miss out on the signing of Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo to Chelsea and do not want to lose Lavia to the Blues as well, according to the report.

The London Evening Standard journalist Nizaar Kinsella has reported on Twitter that Chelsea are in pole position for Lavia, who has been described as “incredible” by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola in the past.

Liverpool need to sign a defensive midfielder this summer.

After all, the Reds have lost Fabinho and Jordan Henderson in the summer transfer window.

Lavia is only 19 and has made 29 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.

Although he has a lot of potential, we do not think that Liverpool should pay £60 million for the Belgium international defensive midfielder.

But, it seems that Chelsea’s interest in Lavia has driven Liverpool to take desperate measures to get a deal done for the teenager.
