Liverpool have made contact to sign Nicolo Barella from Inter Milan, according to Calciomercato.it.

What’s the story?

Calciomercato.it are reporting that Liverpool are interested in signing Barella from Inter in the summer transfer window.

The former Premier League champions have initiated contact and have asked information about signing the Italy international midfielder.

Inter have subsequently said that they will not sell the 24-year-old, who has been compared to Chelsea and France international midfielder N’Golo Kante by Jurgen Klinsmann and Jorginho.

Blow for Liverpool

Barella is one of the best midfielders in Serie A and was a key player in Inter winning the Scudetto last season.

The 24-year-old is more attack-minded than Kante, but, as Chelsea and Italy international midfielder Jorginho has said, both have physical power, can run for everyone for 120 minutes and cover a lot of ground.

Former Tottenham Hotspur star Klinsmann has also drawn comparisons between Kante and Barella.

There is no surprise that Liverpool are so keen on Barella.

The Inter no.23 scored three goals and gave seven assists in 36 Serie A games last season.

The Italy international also gave one assist in six Champions League matches.

With Inter insisting that they will not sell the 24-year-old, there is nothing much that Liverpool can do at the moment.
