Liverpool and Newcastle have reportedly lost out on the race for Aberdeen defender Calvin Ramsay, with Serie A side Bologna set to sign the teenager.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the mid-table Serie A side are ‘close’ to wrapping up a deal for the 18-year-old right-back.
As reported by the Daily Record, both Liverpool and Newcastle were previously in the race to sign the Scottish youngster, as well as the likes of Everton and Manchester United.
However, it looks like Bologna have now won the tight race for the teenage defender. Ramsay will be the second Scottish fullback Bologna have signed in recent years, with Aaron Hickey currently a key player at the club.
Branded ‘elite’ by Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack, Ramsay is a player who is highly rated at the Dons and has impressed this season in the Scottish Premiership, with the right-back bagging an impressive eight assists in all competitions.
Ramsay will be the second Scottish teenager to make the move to a major Europe club this week, with Nathan Patterson joining Everton from Rangers in a reported £11.5m deal.
Bologna have landed a huge talent in Ramsay

At just 18 and already a regular in the Scottish top-flight, Ramsay is a player who can go far if he continues to progress as much as he has in the past six months, and Bologna have landed a gem of a player.
Whilst it’s hard to tell how Ramsay would have developed at Liverpool or Newcastle, Bologna will likely be the better environment for the teenager. And based on Hickey’s success, the youngster will be given time to adapt to Serie A football.
