Roma will pay Liverpool £26.8m for Mamadou Sakho and they should take the money and run.

Liverpool are on danger of being too greedy when it comes to Mamadou Sakho, a man who according to the Guardian, they value at £30m and are refusing to accept any less.

This is despite the fact that the defender has not played a game for the club since a 4-0 win over rivals Everton in the Premier League in April 2016.

Last season Sakho, having been marginalised at Anfield by manager Jurgen Klopp, impressed on loan at Crystal Palace in the latter part of the campaign, but despite wanting to make that move permanent the Eagles could not afford to meet the asking price.

Now French publication Le Figaro reports that Roma are keen on the 27-year-old and are actually willing to pay £26.8m to bring the centre-back to the Italian capital.

While this is a little short of the Reds’ valuation, it would be a fantastic price for a player not in Klopp’s first team plans and who cost them £18m from Paris Saint-Germain in 2013.

Otherwise, the Merseysiders risk another year of having Sakho on the books at the club, but never getting anywhere near the pitch and being paid handsomely for the privilege.
