Liverpool have sold Neco Williams to Nottingham Forest – and have managed to put a 15% sell-on clause into the £17million deal.

The Reds have made it clear throughout 2022 that Williams didn’t have a long-term future at Anfield.

After limited playing time, Williams was allowed to join Championship side Fulham on loan during the January window.

Williams impressed at Craven Cottage but that didn’t take him any closer to first-team action at Liverpool.

Instead, the Reds signed another young right back in Aberdeen’s Calvin Ramsay and have now allowed Williams to leave.

Liverpool have sold Neco Williams to Nottingham Forest

After weeks of rumours linking Williams with other clubs – such as Fulham and Southampton – Williams has secured his move away from Liverpool.

Nottingham Forest have confirmed the signing of Williams, handing him a four-year contract at the City Ground.

Forest have lost loanee Djed Spence back to Middlesbrough and needed to land a new right wing back.

Despite links to other options, it’s Williams who has joined Forest to replace Spence and play first-team football on a regular basis.

The move seems perfect for Williams, allowing him to settle down and play under fellow Welshman Steve Cooper.

Add in the prospect of joining forces with Wales teammate Brennan Johnson and you can understand why Williams has made the move to the City Ground.

Fabrizio Romano has now taken to Twitter to offer some details on the deal.

Romano claims that the fee involved is £17.5million, including the potential add-ons that Forest may pay down the line.

One interesting note is that Liverpool have a 15% sell-on clause in the deal, meaning they can claim a cut of Williams’ valuation down the line.

Whether that will be a clause based on the total fee or just on any profit remains to be seen, but Liverpool seemingly believe that there could be a big move for Williams in the future.
