Liverpool defender Nat Phillips has admitted that he is open to leaving the club in January with Newcastle United and West Ham United both interested.
Phillips comments on his Liverpool future
Phillips has told Sky Sports that he wants to be playing games – something that just isn’t happening at Liverpool.
The 24-year-old hasn’t played a single league games for Liverpool this season. In all competitions, Phillips has started just once.
Having broken into the Liverpool side last season, that just isn’t good enough for Phillips.
Phillips has indicated that he now wants to leave Liverpool – and boss Klopp agrees that he needs to move on.
Phillips also talked up his ability to go in and play wherever he goes, but will wait and see what comes along in January.
“I want to be playing games. It’s been tough because the competition to get in this team is fierce,” said Phillips. “The manager and I agree that the best thing for me is to play as many games as possible. I think you saw last year I developed well.”
“I’m going to see what comes along [in January] and go from there. I think at this moment in time it’s unlikely that I’ll be playing lots of games for Liverpool, so if an opportunity arises where I get the chance to do that somewhere else and it suits everyone then it’s certainly something I’d be interested in.”
“I’ve had the exposure and experience in the Premier League and the Champions League. So maybe those situations where you’re new and nervy, I’ve gone through that phase. I don’t need to go through that process if I do go somewhere else. I’ll be ready straight away to get involved and play,” he added.
Newcastle and West Ham chasing Phillips
So where could Phillips end up?
The Telegraph claim that Newcastle United are interested in signing Phillips.

Eddie Howe needs defensive additions to keep Newcastle in the Premier League and Phillips is seen as a potential addition.
Newcastle aren’t favourites for Phillips right now though.
The London Evening Standard claim that West Ham United are pressing ahead with a £10million move for Phillips.
Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna are both injured, so Phillips could be needed at West Ham.
Liverpool may hope for something of a bidding war, but it looks like Phillips will be leaving Anfield one way or another.
