Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has praised midfielder Naby Keita after he pounced back from a shattering error against Atletico Madrid.

Keita opened the scoring for Liverpool as they ran riot in a 5-0 win over rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Guinean ran through the middle of the pitch, taking Mohamed Salah’s pass before slotting past David De Gea.

This was Keita’s second goal in a matter of days having also scored a superb volley against Atletico Madrid in midweek.

That night didn’t end all that well for Keita though, with Klopp now commenting on the situation.

Klopp comments on Liverpool ace Keita

Klopp told This Is Anfield that Keita’s mistake against Atletico Madrid – gifting them a route back into the game – ‘shattered’ his confidence.

However, Klopp stated that he was always going to put Keita straight back into the starting lineup even after substituting him early in Spain.

That likely gave Keita his confidence back, with Klopp adding that he is an ‘outstanding’ player in a ‘great moment’ right now.

Sadly, Keita went off injured against United as Paul Pogba flew into a rash challenge on him, and Liverpool are waiting for news on his injury.

“Naby is in a great moment, an outstanding player,” said Klopp. “At Atletico he played outstandingly well until he made the mistake for the first goal. It shattered him a little bit…but it’s clear we’d start him again and he proved us right.”

“We have to see how serious it is, it’s very painful but we’ll see – we’ll only know tomorrow or the day after tomorrow,” he added.
