Liverpool should be looking at Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish this summer.
Liverpool continued their push for the Premier League title with a 2-1 win at Fulham on Sunday, avoiding a slip-up at Craven Cottage.
The Reds still somewhat lack a semblance of creativity in the middle of the park, even with Adam Lallana restored to the side by Jurgen Klopp.
Many expect Klopp to sign another playmaker this summer, with a real replacement for Philippe Coutinho still needed following his move to Barcelona more than a year ago.
One name linked last summer was Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, though the Liverpool Echo suggested that there was no interest in his signature from Liverpool.
That was after an impressive half-season in the Championship, but Grealish has kicked on again this season, proving to be Villa’s driving force in their push for the play-offs.
The 23-year-old has notched four goals and five assists this season, whilst producing the real moments of exceptional quality to set him apart from the rest, such as his stunning volley against Derby County earlier this month.
Liverpool have missed a player to unlock deep blocks at times, and Grealish could be that player. He’s always driving forward with the ball, always looking to go past a man, always looking to unlock the defence.
Despite Liverpool’s lofty ambitions, there’s nothing wrong with targeting a top Championship player. Most Reds fans would happily take James Maddison or David Brooks right now, two players not even a year removed from the Championship.
Grealish is of a similar ilk, and having been reluctant to target him last summer, he has now surely done enough with Villa to tempt Liverpool into re-thinking their alleged stance. His creativity could be the difference against stubborn sides, and with huge potential to get even better when he finally returns to the top flight, Grealish should be on the Liverpool radar this summer.
