Liverpool should attempt to hijack Manchester United’s reported interest in the Napoli defender.

Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has somewhat of a central defensive injury crisis on his hands, with Joe Gomez and Joel Matip both having been ruled out with long-term injuries.
The question is, will the German dip into the transfer market in January to bolster his defensive ranks?
If Klopp is to bring any new players in, he will surely be targeting a central defender, and with this in mind, the Reds must challenge Manchester United for Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.
The Red Devils are lining up a January move for the £100 million-rated 27-year-old, according to the London Evening Standard, and Liverpool would strike a real blow to their bitter rivals, if they can somehow beat them to the Senegalese ace.
Koulibaly is undoubtedly one of the world’s best central defenders, and the thought of him pairing up with Virgil van Dijk at the heart of Liverpool’s defence will surely get Reds fans salivating.
Standing at 6ft 5in tall, the former Genk man cuts an imposing figure. He is incredibly strong in the air, tenacious in the tackle, and is also very quick along the ground.

Koulibaly is comfortable in possession, and has the confidence to play out from the back – he really is the all-round modern day defender.
Whether Liverpool would be prepared to lay out £100 million on another defender remains to be seen, but if Klopp does manage to beat United to the Senegal international’s signature, it could turn out to be the signing that clinches the Premier League title for the Merseyside outfit.
