Liverpool held interest in Celtic star before he made his name in Scotland.

Celtic face a real fight to keep hold of centre-back Kristoffer Ajer.

TeamTalk report Borussia Dortmund, Tottenham and Southampton are all keen on the Norwegian defender, who has established himself as a regular at Celtic this season.

Ajer is an exciting prospect and he is a player who Liverpool too may have their eye on; having previously tracked him.

Norwegian outlet Nettavisen reported in 2015 how Liverpool were keen on Ajer while he was playing for Start, before Celtic went on to snap him up.

He has since proven himself at Celtic and is close to picking up a title winner’s medal later as Brendan Rodgers’ side close in on another league title.

The last Celtic centre-back to generate so much interest was Virgil van Dijk, who signed with Southampton – and earlier this year Liverpool paid £75 million to sign him.

The Reds should cut out the middle man and swoop for him this summer, especially given Tottenham’s interest.

If Tottenham move for Ajer then there will be no further opportunity to bring him in, this would be their only shot.
