Liverpool ace Mohamed Salah was back to his best against Manchester United – though he and Thiago seemingly don’t agree about his position!
The Reds hosted United at Anfield on Tuesday night and were hoping for a repeat of the 5-0 thrashing they doled out at Old Trafford in October.
Remarkably, it nearly happened; Liverpool coasted to a 4-0 victory as United barely laid a glove on Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Liverpool were 2-0 up at the break as Luis Diaz and Salah found the net. Sadio Mane then made it 3-0 and Salah added gloss to the win with a fourth.
This was Salah back at the levels we have come to expect from him.
So much has been made about his recent form. No non-penalty goals since the 3-1 win over Norwich City in February meant Salah was in something of a slump.
Was it the question marks over his contract? Was it just fatigue having played for Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations? Either way, Liverpool weren’t seeing the best of Salah.
On Tuesday though, Salah was at it. Two goals and one assist meant Salah was ran United ragged with a superb performance.
No matter what may be going on, Salah is still one of the best wingers around… well, depending on who you hear from.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the full-time whistle, Thiago called Salah a striker rather than a winger.
“When we have the top level strikers that we have up front…” started Thiago before Salah interjected with “winger”, correcting his teammate.

Thiago responded by saying “A striker more than a winger, come on, you’re scoring a lot of goals!”
Salah certainly isn’t in the mould of a classic striker, but he’s pretty much used as a striker.
Salah makes darting runs in from the right flank to cause havoc and ultimately score goals.
Being a left-footed player on the right flank, the priority is for Salah to get infield and shoot on his stronger foot.
Striker, winger, whatever it may be, Liverpool will just be glad that Salah is back to his best again.
