Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah is still set to leave in 2023 as things stand – and Roy Keane thinks the contract stand-off isn’t over money.

Liverpool claimed a 2-2 draw at Manchester City today, twice coming from behind to pick up a point at the Etihad Stadium.

Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane were both on the scoresheet as Salah posted another blank with his strange form continuing.

Salah hasn’t scored a Premier League goal from open play since the 19th of February, with his three goals since then coming from the penalty spot.

The Egyptian ultimately has his contract saga hanging over his head, with speculation surrounding Salah’s long-term future at Liverpool.

Out of contract in 2023, Salah will be able to leave the club for absolutely nothing in just over a year’s time.

Liverpool are of course looking to keep hold of Salah and The Mirror claim that a deal worth around £400,000-a-week is in the pipeline.

Yet until that deal is signed – and whilst Salah continues to struggle for goals – many will wonder just what the future really holds.

Salah has become a Liverpool hero since arriving from Roma in 2017, racking up 153 goals and 58 assists in 242 appearances.

Approaching his 30th birthday, Liverpool may fear Salah declining in the coming years – and that may play a part in the contract talks.

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has now had his say on Salah, telling Sky Sports that he doesn’t think the winger’s stance is anything to do with money.

Keane thinks Salah may actually want something new, such as a move to Spain having already played in England and Italy.

Keane believes Salah will have suitors in Spain – Barcelona or Real Madrid you would assume – and even if he’s happy at Liverpool, he may still want to go.

“I don’t think it’s about money,” said Keane. “It might be about a new experience. I’ve got no doubt that he’s happy but this idea that it’s just about money, I’d say it’s far from it. He’s been abroad before, I don’t think it will be about the money, it’s just what he fancies. Spain would certainly be an option for him, no doubt,” he added.
