Liverpool misfit Divock Origi reportedly interested in signing for Spurs, but would his fortunes really change?

Liverpool forward Divock Origi is reportedly keen on a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool forward Divock Origi is interested in signing for Tottenham Hotspur before the transfer deadline, with this Anfield future in doubt.

Origi, 22, impressed in France with Lille and at the 2014 World Cup with Belgium to earn a move to Liverpool, and after spending a season back on loan with Lille, he finally started his Liverpool career in the summer of 2014.

The forward has hit 23 goals in 86 games for Liverpool, but he has struggled to nail down a starting role under Jurgen Klopp, and now finds himself behind Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge and Dominic Solanke in the Anfield pecking order.

As Liverpool chase new signings before the deadline, the Daily Mail (16:19) note that Origi – who is wanted by Newcastle – could leave Merseyside, and he is interested in joining Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

The Mirror reported during the 2014 World Cup that Spurs were interested in signing Origi from Lille, and whilst Liverpool won the race then, manager Mauricio Pochettino may now rekindle Tottenham’s interest in Origi.

Origi will want first team football ahead of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, but Tottenham may not be the best destination for the Liverpool misfit in that case.

The problem Tottenham have faced in their pursuit of signing a striker is that few forwards will accept the role of being second choice behind Harry Kane, given that the England international is the undoubted star of the Tottenham attack.

Origi does bring added versatility in that he can play out wide, but even then he would be behind the likes of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and potentially even Son Heung-min, meaning his fortunes may be somewhat similar to how they are at Liverpool right now.

From Tottenham’s perspective, Origi may offer more of a goal threat than Vincent Janssen, but the player himself risks being a bit-part player once again if he heads to North London, and a loan move to Newcastle may in fact be better for him, as he can play regular first-team football as a central striker whilst possibly putting himself in the shop window.
