Liverpool’s outgoing sporting director Michael Edwards has rejected the idea of joining Newcastle United – and could instead move to Real Madrid.
Liverpool’s Edwards doesn’t fancy Newcastle move
Edwards has already announced that he will be leaving his post at Liverpool at the end of the season.
Julian Ward is his replacement, and he will face a tough task following on from Edwards, who has been branded a ‘genius’.
The Independent claim that Edwards has privately been very coy about his next move – but he won’t be heading to Newcastle.
A move to St James’ Park seemingly doesn’t appeal to Edwards despite his relationship with Eddie Howe.
Edwards and Howe go back to their days at Portsmouth together, but there won’t be a reunion at Newcastle.
Newcastle do need a sporting director to lead their transfer business, and Edwards could have been a huge coup.

Real Madrid could now land Edwards
Instead, it looks like Edwards could be heading to Spain with Real Madrid.
Real have approached Edwards and now hope to get the 42-year-old on board for next summer.
Edwards is seen is as the perfect man to lead Real’s transfer business moving forward, and he is more interested in that job than the one at Newcastle.
That’s another blow for the Magpies, but something of a wake-up call too.
Newcastle may have money now after their takeover, but they need to build in stature before they can compete with the likes of Real Madrid.
