A selection of the latest stories in the media this morning involving Liverpool Football Club.
Liverpool will step up their pursuit of Sevilla forward Carlos Bacca amid interest from Manchester United according to the Daily Mirror.
The Reds are reportedly willing to meet the release clause of £21.5 million to land the forward who scored 28 goals last season and helped the La Liga side to their second successive Europa League triumph.
It would certainly reaffirm Liverpool’s intent if they were to land Bacca after securing the services of Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim in a deal that could ultimately cost £29 million.
According to the Liverpool Echo, Firmino is expected to take the number 11 shirt, and the paper also mentions that James Milner – who signed on a free transfer from Manchester City – will take the club’s iconic number 7.
The Echo has also reported that Liverpool have submitted a fresh bid for Southampton right-back Nathaniel Clyne as Brendan Rodgers looks to address what has become a problem area for the Reds.
As reported by other sources, the Reds had an initial bid set to be worth around £10 million rejected but have upped their offer to £12.5 million, which includes add-ons.
It has been said that Southampton want £15 million for the right-back who has just one year left on his contract at St Mary’s but appears to have expressed his desire to leave.
Finally, Manchester City are apparently ready to make a third bid for Raheem Sterling after having two bids rejected by the Reds for the winger.
The Daily Mail reports that Manchester City will make a bid of £40 million up front but there will be add-ons to take the deal closer to Liverpool’s £50 million valuation.
