According to Fotospor, Liverpool have supposedly held talks with Fenerbahce about a potential move away from Anfield for Divock Origi.

Origi is a player Liverpool have reportedly been looking to shift all summer, and now they have the chance to sell him on.

On face value, this looks like a boost for the Reds, but in our view, selling Origi to Fenerbahce could be a very short-sighted decision.

As we all know, the transfer window in England is closed, and if Origi is sold, Liverpool will be even shorter in an area where they don’t have much depth in the first place.

The Reds ought to know better than any other club how an injury crisis can cripple a team, and if a couple of their attackers go down, they will have to call upon Origi.

Factor in that the African Cup of Nations will rule Sadio Mane and Mo Salah out of action for almost a month later in the season, and you can begin to see just how important Origi is to Liverpool’s depth.

Yes, the Reds have the likes of Harvey Elliott and Takumi Minamino, but neither of those two are as proven at the top level as Origi is.

Should the Reds sell Origi? Eventually, they probably should, but moving him just days after the transfer window closed would be ridiculous as they simply wouldn’t be able to replace him.

If Origi ends up moving to Fenerbahce before the Turkish window closes it would be a very short-sighted call from the Anfield outfit.
