Liverpool want Matheus Nunes and the Sporting star allegedly believes a move to the Premier League could happen at any moment this summer.
The Reds had raided two of Portugal’s top clubs in 2022 by snapping up Luis Diaz from Porto and Darwin Nunez from Benfica.
Sporting have so far managed to avoid Liverpool’s pulling power but that may change in the near future.
Former Reds Sebastian Coates, Tiago Lori and Rafael Camacho are all on the Sporting books but Liverpool may now look to add a Sporting star to their ranks.
Liverpool want Matheus Nunes
Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Noticias report that Liverpool have recently shown a strong interest in signing Sporting star Matheus Nunes.
Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers were mentioned too but it was suggested that Liverpool were pushing themselves to the front of the queue in recent weeks.
This promises to be a key season for Liverpool midfielders.
Can Curtis Jones find some consistency? Can Naby Keita take the next step and become an undroppable player under Jurgen Klopp?
If the answers to those questions are ‘no’, Liverpool will likely spend big on a midfielder next summer.

Nunes could be an option if available in 2023, with a deal for the Brazilian-turned-Portuguese midfielder a little unlikely this summer.
Still, Correio da Manha claim that Nunes is of the belief that a move to the Premier League could materialise at any time this summer.
It’s suggested that Nunes has his ‘body and soul’ with Sporting but knows that there is real interest from the Premier League.
Nunes, 23, has become a quality box-to-box midfield player and his speed, work rate and energy in midfield could suit Jurgen Klopp perfectly.
Nunes isn’t going to kick up a fuss to leave Sporting this summer – he seemingly has too much respect for the club to really demand a move.
Yet with Sporting happy to sell for €50million (£42.5million), Nunes thinks he could be England-bound this summer – but much will depend on whether Liverpool prefer to wait until next summer or make a move now.
