Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are keen on signing Mason Mount and actually view him as a top target if Jude Bellingham doesn’t arrive.

That’s according to transfer reporter Rudy Galetti, who claims that Liverpool are ‘above all’ in the race to sign Mount.

However, it’s stated that Liverpool will only ‘take advantage’ for Mount if they can’t convince Bellingham to sign.

It’s added that Mount no longer feels integral to Chelsea’s project and that’s why talks over a new contract have stalled.

Chelsea may therefore choose to sell in the summer given that Mount is now into the final 18 months of his contract.

Chelsea won’t want to see Mount leave for absolutely nothing in 2024 and that could play right into Liverpool’s hands.

A move to another English club seems tricky but ESPN claim that Mount is open to joining a Premier League rival.

Manchester United and Manchester City are also thought to be keen on Mount, but it’s Liverpool who seem to be most interested.

Jurgen Klopp has already had his say on Liverpool target Mason Mount

Maybe we shouldn’t be surprised by Liverpool wanting Mount.

The 24-year-old maybe isn’t at Bellingham’s level in many ways and his return of three goals and two assists in 22 league games this season isn’t good enough.

Yet Mount has bags of energy to help bring back Liverpool’s pressing style and managers tend to love the work he puts in off the ball.

Those aspects are highly valued by Klopp and he has already praised Mount.

Speaking in 2019, Klopp suggested that Mount was already worth £60million ‘or even more’ having impressed on loan at Derby County.

Fast forward three-and-a-half years and Klopp now seemingly has the chance to bring Mount to Liverpool.

Mount is a better player than he was in 2019 but with his contract running down, Liverpool may be able to secure a deal below £60million.

That would surely appeal to Klopp, but much will depend on whether Liverpool can eventually convince Bellingham to join.
