Rio Ferdinand has said on BT Sport 1 (7:11pm, February 10, 2022) that Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold’s pride has been hurt by Manchester City seemingly running away with the Premier League title this season.

The former Manchester United defender made the comments following Alexander-Arnold’s interview on BT Sports in which he said that Liverpool are still optimistic of winning the Premier League title this season.

The 23-year-old England international right-back made the comments before the Premier League game between Liverpool and Leicester City at Anfield on Thursday evening.

Ferdinand said on BT Sport 1 (7:11pm, February 10, 2022): “That’s a little uncomfortable laugh where his pride has taken a little bit of a knock because you have egos, and he has had his hands on that trophy.

“He has won the Champions League, and he wants to get that feeling again. They are not going to say it publicly, they are never going to say that they will give up.

“It would be a huge fall from grace for Man City for Liverpool to win the league. I cannot see that happening.”

Liverpool could still catch Manchester City

In our view, Liverpool could catch Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table this season.

Yes, the defending English champions have been superb so far this season, but they are not invincible.

Pep Guardiola’s side have already lost two Premier League matches this season.

If Liverpool win their game in hand, then they will be only six points behind the Citizens in second place.

That, in our opinion, is not unassailable.

We think that if Liverpool continue to win their Premier League games, then they will pile the pressure on City.
