Liverpool’s battle with Manchester City may take another turn with Pep Guardiola’s men reportedly closing in on Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland.
The Reds have struck up a strong rivalry with City over the last five years. Local proximity is a factor, but this is mostly about titles.
The two clubs fight it out for the Premier League title, FA Cup, League Cup and Champions League on a regular basis.
Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola are arguably the top two managers in the world right now and this battle seems set to go on for a while longer yet.
City are always looking for big signings and it looks like they’re on the verge of a huge one with Haaland.
The Daily Mail report that City are preparing to trigger the £63million release clause in Haaland’s Dortmund contract.
It’s added that City are ready to pay a huge £500,000-a-week contract whilst agent Mino Raiola will be paid a considerable fee.
The Norwegian attacker, who has smashed 82 goals in 85 games for Dortmund, will take City’s attack to another level.
That has to be a little worrying for Liverpool, but Klopp seemingly saw this kind of deal coming.
Earlier this month, Klopp suggested that Liverpool would not be signing Haaland due to the ‘crazy’ demands involved.

Klopp claimed that Liverpool wouldn’t be going anywhere near a deal or Haaland, claiming the money for any deal was ‘not fun’.
Well, just a few weeks on and here we are; City are set to pay Haaland around £500,000-a-week – more than any Liverpool player.
Liverpool would have been happy to pay the release clause, but the wages are the problem.
Liverpool are having enough trouble trying to get a deal done for Mohamed Salah without bringing in somebody on even more money.
Klopp’s claims have been proven right, and he will now have to try and gameplay to stop Haaland in the Premier League next season and beyond.
