Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has raved about Manchester United attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes on the club’s official website.
Klopp’s Liverpool will face Fernandes at Anfield in the Premier League tomorrow.
The Portugal international attacking midfielder is set to line up for United, and Klopp is aware of the 26-year-old’s quality.
Klopp told Liverpool’s official website about Fernandes: “He’s an outstanding player. Before he joined United, we played against Sporting in the USA on the tour and in that game already you could see, ‘Wow!’
“Obviously everybody knew him but in that game it was the first time my team played against a team he was involved. You could really see he was a difference-maker and that’s what he shows now.
“He is settled, he is a very influential player for United obviously, involved in a lot of things. I know people talk mostly about the goal involvements, which is very important stuff, but he is a link-up in a lot of other situations as well.
“I don’t know him well enough to really judge that but he seems to be a leader as well. So, yeah, a good signing, unfortunately, for United.”
Liverpool have to keep Bruno Fernandes in check
Fernandes is a world-class attacking midfielder who is arguably the best and most important player in the current United squad.
According to WhoScored, Fernandes has scored 11 goals and provided seven assists in 17 Premier League matches and scored four goals and gave one assist in six Champions League games for United this season.
The Portuguese is playing well at the moment, and although Paul Pogba is also likely to start for United, it is Fernandes and his creativity that Liverpool need to keep in check more tomorrow.
Paul Merson’s warning
Meanwhile, former Arsenal star Paul Merson, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, has warned Liverpool against playing midfielders Jordan Henderson and Fabinho in defence against United on Sunday afternoon.
Merson wrote in The Daily Star: “Playing Jordan Henderson and Fabinho at centre half, you can get away with that at certain times. But I can’t see them getting away with that against Fernandes, Rashford, Pogba and Anthony Martial.”
