There was plenty of discussion around an individual award handed to a Liverpool midfielder last week, when Jordan Henderson scooped the Football Writers’ Player of the Year.
Now it’s Curtis Jones’ turn, after his nine goals in PL2 saw him named the division’s Player of the Year yesterday.
Jones told Liverpool’s official website: “I have to give a massive thank you to the staff who were there with the U23s, Critch [Neil Critchley], Jenks [Tim Jenkins] and Barry [Lewtas] with the U19s.
“I’ve got to thank my teammates and give them credit as well. I’m buzzing.”

An impressive season has seen Jones bridge the gap between youth football and the first team, making 12 senior appearances.
They include that famous winner against Everton in January’s FA Cup tie.
He took to Twitter after winning the award, staying humble by thanking his team-mates and coaches.
Jones has clearly been targeted to take on Adam Lallana’s old spot in Jurgen Klopp’s squad next term.
If keeps on going the way he is now, 2020-21 will be even better for the PL2’s best player of the curtailed 2019-20 campaign.
