Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom has struggled to establish himself at Anfield, and has had to endure mulptiple loan spells away from the club.

Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom is currently spending the season loan at Red Bull Salzburg, and in an exclusive interview with online football magazine TheSetPieces he explained his reasoning behind choosing Austria over another English side.

The 23-year-old has already spent three separate loan spells away from Anfield, at Derby County, West Bromwich Albion and Norwich City respectively, but this time he chose to broaden his horizons, despite offers from clubs closer to home.

He spoke to TheSetPieces and explained his reasoning behind moving abroad:

“I know what I need to do – play, improve and work hard. I don’t need someone to tell me to do that. Being in a different country doesn’t bother me or make me feel nervous one bit. It’s the same as if I was to go ten minutes up the road to Manchester or an hour down the road to Birmingham. It doesn’t really matter where it is, it’s football at the end of the day.”

Since his move to Salzburg, Wisdom has only made one appearance, however, and with the aim of the loan spell being to gain more regular first-team football, he must be highly disappointed to have received such little game time thus far.

His side are currently third in the Austrian league, and seven points adrift of league leaders Sturm Graz.

Salzburg have been incredibly tight at the back, conceding just seven goals in 10 league outings, and that could be the main reason Wisdom is finding it so hard to break into the first-team.

At the age of 23, there must come a time soon when Wisdom either proves himself at Anfield, or leaves for pastures new, and with Nathaniel Clyne currently occupying the right-back spot for the Reds, he will have to vastly improve if he is to have any chance of usurping him in the future.
