Liverpool talent Layton Stewart certainly seems to be getting better all the time.

The 20-year-old hitman spent 13 months out injured with an ACL problem and it goes without saying that picking up an issue like that, this early in your professional career, is a massive blow to deal with mentally.

However, Liverpool’s Under-21 boss, Barry Lewtas, has been singing the youngster’s praises for how he’s been training since returning from such a long absence.

Stewart scored three in a 5-0 demolition of Wolverhampton Wanderers recently to make it six goals for the reserves this season.

Lewtas told the club’s official website: “I’m really pleased for Layton. He has trained ever so hard after his long spell on the sidelines. He is not there yet, but he is getting sharper and sharper.”

Stewart is clearly a very exciting prospect and one who’s even been compared to a certain Fernando Torres [The Athletic].

The legendary Spanish hitman was loved for most of his spell at Liverpool, prior to joining Chelsea in 2011.

But if this kid even develops into half the player Torres was then it’s clear that the Reds have a top talent on their hands.

The road to Jurgen Klopp’s senior squad is long and it’ll probably get harder, with the likes of Darwin Nunez there now, but patience is key and he’s already proven that he can do that after spending more than a year on the sidelines.
