Kostas Tsimikas delivered a phenomenal display for Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday, as the Reds beat Atlético Madrid.
As WhoScored shows, the 25-year-old made four key passes, the same as Trent Alexander-Arnold who won the Man of the Match award.
However, much of the focus after full-time was on his mysterious black eye.
What’s the story?
Well, when quizzed on how he received the bruising, Tsimikas said it was Thiago Alcantara’s fault, although the £20m man didn’t do it on purpose!
As quoted by the Liverpool Echo, the Greece international said: “I think three days ago I crashed with Thiago in one exercise inside the pitch.”
It must’ve been quite the collision, as plenty of Liverpool fans were also wondering how it happened after spotting the black eye in training photos.
Thankfully, at least it wasn’t due to a training ground bust-up between Jürgen Klopp’s men!
Should Kostas Tsimikas start for Liverpool?
After watching him shine against Atlético Madrid, some Liverpool fans have been discussing if Tsimikas should take Andy Robertson’s place.
After all, the Scotland international struggled against Brighton recently.
Robertson played everyone onside for Brighton’s equaliser, while also allowing Tariq Lamptey to embarrass him before setting up what looked like a winner for the Seagulls, but for the intervention of VAR.
Tsimikas also shone in the early weeks of the season while Robertson was injured, so Klopp definitely has a decision to make.
In our view, Tsimikas has earned a shot, although Robertson has been the best left-back in Europe for some time now, and has plenty of credit banked.
Only if he starts to become a complete liability should Tsimikas take his place for good.
