Liverpool winger Luis Diaz made his debut on Sunday – and that meant teaming up with Virgil van Dijk for the first time.
Diaz completed a big move from Porto last week, with Liverpool paying £37million rising to £49million for the wide man.
With Tottenham Hotspur hijacked, Liverpool fans have been delighted with this signing and they will have liked what they saw on Sunday.
Diaz’s was brought on as a substitute against Cardiff City, and his pressing and close control resulted in a Liverpool goal for Takumi Minamino.
There was a minor injury scare for Diaz as he clutched his knee, but he finished the game and will be delighted with his start on Merseyside.
Diaz should be able to make his Premier League debut against Leicester City on Thursday, with excitement already building.
Over the weekend, Liverpool released a video showing Diaz arriving at the club’s AXA Training Centre.
Diaz met Jurgen Klopp and was stunned to learn that Pepijn Lijnders speaks Portuguese, but the highlight was arguably his meeting with Van Dijk.
Van Dijk and Diaz embraced before the Colombian wide man walked away and simply remarked ‘he is so big’.

That’s probably how many Premier League attackers have felt for many years now; the Dutchman is just so imposing.
Van Dijk stands at 6ft 4in but his physique and the way he carries himself just makes him seem even bigger.
Diaz has faced Van Dijk in the past, twice this season in fact as Liverpool did the double over Porto in the Champions League.
Given how imperious Van Dijk is at the back, Diaz is no doubt delighted to playing alongside the giant defender rather than against him.
