Liverpool winger Luis Diaz has been hailed by pundit Micah Richards after a ‘frightening’ performance against Chelsea on Saturday evening.

Liverpool added yet another piece of silverware to their trophy cabinet on Saturday evening by beating Chelsea in the FA Cup final.

It wasn’t a classic; neither side could find the net in 120 minutes as the game went to penalties, just as it did when they met in the Carabao Cup final.

Liverpool won that game on penalties and it happened again on Saturday evening.

Alisson saved from Mason Mount in sudden death to allow Kostas Tsimikas to step up and fire the winning spot kick.

That’s two domestic trophies in the bag for Liverpool this season having won the Carabao Cup. A quadruple is still possible with the Premier League and Champions League in play for Liverpool.

A number of Liverpool players impressed on the day but few really stood out as much as winger Diaz.

The January signing from Porto has been earning praise from all corners since arriving at Anfield and even boss Jurgen Klopp has called his pace ’insane’.

Chelsea certainly saw that in the first half as Diaz caused mayhem down the Liverpool left.

In truth, the Colombian international could have had a couple of goals but it just wasn’t to be.

Diaz was substituted in the second half but still won the Man of the Match award for his superb performance.

Micah Richards may have his allegiance to Manchester City but he couldn’t resist raving about Diaz’s display.

Richards told BBC Sport (17:44) that he felt Diaz was absolutely ‘frightening’ in the first half.

Richards felt that Diaz was giving Reece James and Trevoh Chalobah the runaround, calling him the ‘best player on the pitch’ as his outstanding start to life in England continues.

“Diaz has been frightening – Reece James and Trevoh Chalobah don’t quite know when to go and when to stay,” said Richards. “Chalobah has been left isolated one v one against one of the best players on the pitch and Chelsea have got lucky. The way Liverpool apply the pressure to prevent Chelsea getting out has been brilliant to watch,” he added.
