Liverpool have secured the signing of winger Luis Diaz from Porto, and former Premier League boss Carlos Carvalhal has backed him for huge success.

It looked like Tottenham would be signing Diaz after they lodged a £37.6million bid to bring him to the Premier League.

Yet whilst Tottenham cooked up another offer for Diaz, Liverpool swooped in and hijacked the deal, leaving Spurs rocked.

Liverpool have secured a deal worth £37million rising to £49million for Diaz, bringing forward their plans to sign him in the summer.

The Colombian winger now bolsters Jurgen Klopp’s attack, with the idea of offering competition for Sadio Mane down the left flank.

There is a huge chance that Diaz ends up being Mane’s long-term successor; after all, Mane is out of contract in 2023.

Diaz has been a sensation this season with 16 goals and six goals in 28 games for Porto, and he now has to translate that to the Premier League.

Some stars of the Portuguese game haven’t quite made it in England, with Eliaquim Mangala, Islam Slimani, Lazar Markovic and Giannelli Imbula spring to mind.

Diaz has now been backed to shine though, with Carvalhal a man well-placed to comment on the winger’s move.

Former Sheffield Wednesday boss Carvalhal took charge of Swansea City in the Premier League and went up against Jurgen Klopp in the top flight.

Now in charge of Braga in Portugal, Carvalhal has told the Daily Mail that he thinks Diaz is ‘absolutely fantastic’ and ‘very intense’.

Carvalhal ultimately thinks we will see the best of Diaz next season, predicting that he will be one of the Premier League’s best players.

Carvalhal also feels that Diaz is just ready made for Liverpool, praising him for being ‘dynamic’ and ‘creative’ as well as a threat to dribble past players.

“He will be one of the stars of the league next season,” said Carvalhal. “He was the best player in the league last season, he did absolutely fantastic, he played on the left side with a right-foot. He scores goals, he’s very intense, especially in attack. He’s a fantastic player.”

“We all know how Liverpool play. It’s like when you have a number on your shoes, you’re a number eight for example, and you look at the shoes and say they’re exactly my number. That is Luis Diaz to Liverpool. He is dynamic, fast, very strong, creative, and very good one-on-one,” he added.
