Liverpool-linked Ryan Gauld raves about Marco Silva, should Everton join the race?

Sporting midfielder Ryan Gauld has hailed Everton boss Marco Silva.

Sporting playmaker Ryan Gauld has told Everton’s official website that he loved working under their new manager Marco Silva in Portugal, hailing his attacking football.

Everton endured a disappointing season, and after replacing Ronald Koeman with Sam Allardyce, the Toffees decided on another managerial change this summer.

Owner Farhad Moshiri decided to part ways with Allardyce and bring in Marco Silva, whilst director of football Steve Walsh also left the club to be replaced by PSV Eindhoven’s Marcel Brands.

Silva showed promise with Watford before Everton attempted to land him, and whilst the Hornets stood firm, they did then sack the Portuguese boss in January after having his head turned.

Fans no longer know what to expect from Silva, but one of his former players has offered Everton supporters an insight into the 40-year-old manager.

Ryan Gauld worked under Silva for a year at Sporting in Portugal, and has now told the club’s official website that he loved working under Silva, and particularly appreciates his attacking approach.

“He knows exactly what he wants from each player and what is required in each position,” said Gauld. “He likes to play intense football. That is one of the things that ensures his teams play really good football, the demand he has for intensity.

“First and foremost, he sets up his teams really well and with the intention of winning games. He likes to concentrate on that attacking side. You could see that when he went to Hull. They stopped conceding so many goals but were also scoring a lot. He is very effective at both ends and knows exactly what he wants from his side,” he added.

Intriguingly, the Scottish talent was linked with a move to Everton’s Merseyside rivals Liverpool last week, along with Arsenal, Rangers and Tottenham, as reported by TEAMtalk, and Gauld’s comments may leave some wondering whether Everton will join the race.

A talented young playmaker, the 22-year-old can also play out wide and could be a talent to develop behind Gylfi Sigurdsson, with Silva’s influence no doubt a factor if Everton do enter the race, with the midfield clearly a huge fan of the Everton boss.
