Liverpool linked goalkeeper has release clause confirmed

Liverpool linked Ron-Robert Zieler is a affordable option should they want to buy the former Manchester United trainee in the future.

Liverpool permitted Pepe Reina to move on last week, the Spaniard signing a deal with Bayern Munich.

The transfer increases the pressure on Simon Mignolet to perform, with Brad Jones the best back-up the club possess.

So what if the Belgian does not step up, and build on a decent if not spectacular debut season for the club?

Sooner or later the Reds will have to strengthen regardless, and a player who has been linked to the club on numerous occasions, most recently by Talksport earlier this year, is German international back-up Ron-Robert Zieler.

Zieler signed a new contract with Hannover 96 this summer, but there is a catch, and one that enables Liverpool to revisit any interest they had, in the future.

Hannover president Martin Kind has confirmed, via German website Sport1, that Zieler’s contract contains a release clause.

The report adds this is believed to be between 8 and 9 million Euros, a bargain price for such a promising talent.

Zieler was a former Manchester United trainee, who left to head back to Germany earlier in his career after suffering with injury during his time with the Red Devils.

Technically a World Cup winner, despite not playing a minute in the tournament, Zieler would be tremendous value should Mignolet fail to kick on, or simply if Liverpool decide next summer to add competition.
