Liverpool are unlikely to make a new signing before the transfer deadline now, but one interesting link has emerged surrounding David Marshall.
The Reds have been quiet in the transfer market since signing Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig, and it looks unlikely that Michael Edwards will strike any more deals.
Yet according to the Daily Mail, Liverpool fancy signing Derby County goalkeeper David Marshall.
Now, Liverpool did strike a similarly strange move by adding Andrew Lonergan, with Jurgen Klopp seemingly valuing the input of experienced goalkeepers.
This link to Marshall really doesn’t add up though. Liverpool already have Alisson Becker, Adrian San Miguel, Caoimhin Kelleher and Marcelo Pitaluga, so adding another stopper doesn’t really make sense.
Marshall doesn’t even count as a homegrown player, so just why Liverpool want want him is unclear, especially as he is now third-choice at Derby.

The 36-year-old would no doubt love a late move to Anfield, especially as he would be able to reunite with Scotland international teammate Andrew Robertson.
The pair are key players for Steve Clarke’s side on the international stage, and Marshall has previously spoken very highly of Robertson.
After Scotland beat Serbia on penalties to reach Euro 2020, Marshall told the Glasgow Times of how Robertson helped changed the mentality in the Scotland side, helping them keep Serbia at bay.
Robertson has that winning mentality from playing under Klopp at Liverpool, and if Marshall somehow makes an unlikely move to Anfield, the Scottish duo would probably be very happy.
