Don’t expect Leroy Sane to join Liverpool this summer, with Fabrizio Romano playing down a move for the Bayern Munich wide man.

Liverpool made one huge signing this summer by luring Benfica striker Darwin Nunez to Anfield.

The Reds have also taken a look towards the future by signing Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay from Fulham and Aberdeen respectively.

It’s now hard to see Liverpool signing any more players this summer, with the Reds more likely to wait until next summer for any more big additions.

That isn’t stopping the transfer rumour mill though and Liverpool were loosely linked with a big name over the weekend.

Don’t expect Leroy Sane to join Liverpool

The Mirror reported that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane.

It was noted that Manchester United are interested in signing Sane but Liverpool were also thrown into the equation.

Sane, 26, looked like becoming an absolute world beater with Manchester City having arrived from Schalke in 2016.

The German hit 25 goals in his first three seasons at City, terrorising defenders with his pace – but a major knee injury in 2019 set him back a little.

Bayern Munich still pounced to sign him in 2020, and Sane has notched 25 goals and 28 assists in 91 outings for the Bundesliga giants.

Sane is clearly a quality winger, but whether he will live up to what some expected of him is another matter.

Klopp seemingly loves his fellow German and Bayern could be open to selling Sane with Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry and Sadio Mane also in their setup.

Liverpool aren’t in the mix though, with Fabrizio Romano telling Caught Offside that he ‘wouldn’t get to too excited’ about rumours linking Sane with the Reds or United.

Romano believes that Bayern just have no intention of selling Sane right now as they want him to have a bigger role after selling Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona.

“I’m aware that there’s growing talk of Leroy Sane being targeted by the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United, but I wouldn’t get too excited about it just yet,” said Romano.

“So far, Bayern have no intention of selling Leroy Sane. Robert Lewandowski has just left and more solutions will be needed throughout the season. It will be a tough deal for any club, and there are no offers on the Bayern table yet.

“I believe that without Lewandowski in the team, Sane could have a bigger role and improve on what has been a slightly disappointing spell with the Bavarian giants so far. The likes of Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry will also have more responsibilities and this can help them all,” he added.
