Liverpool remain at the top of the Premier League, but the gap was reduced on Monday.

Liverpool legend Terry McDermott has told Love Sport Radio that he believes the Reds are in the strongest position for the Premier League title despite Monday’s draw against West Ham United – but also thinks Tottenham Hotspur are in the mix.

Jurgen Klopp’s side went into the weekend five points clear of second-placed Manchester City, but City close the gap to just two with an excellent 3-1 win over Arsenal.

Liverpool then had the chance to reinstate that lead on Monday night by beating West Ham at the London Stadium, but Manuel Pellegrini’s side worked tirelessly to stop the Reds – the match finishing 1-1.

McDermott asked if he thought Liverpool were still favourites to lift the Premier League trophy, and he believes they remain in the best position to do so. However, he believes City and indeed Tottenham remain in the race for the title.

“If someone had asked me in the beginning of February you’re going to be three points clear of Manchester City you’d have snapped their hand. Without a shadow of a doubt,” McDermott said.

“I know we’re all disappointed because one minute we’re looking at seven points in front and then all of a sudden it’s gone down, but City might lose. Then we’ve got a game in hand on them and if we win that, it’s six points.

“And don’t forget, Spurs. They’re bang in there. They weren’t three or four weeks ago, they are now.”

Liverpool’s draw mean they are only five points above Mauricio Pochettino’s side, who sit only two behind current Premier League champions Manchester City. With 13 games to go, anything can happen.

Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals Everton could do them an enormous favour on Wednesday night by beating Manchester City at Goodison Park. Liverpool host Bournemouth on Saturday, while Spurs face Leicester City on Sunday.
