A repeat of last season’s Champions League final is in store as Liverpool will face Real Madrid in the Round of 16.

After missing out on becoming Premier League champions by a mere one point on the final day of the previous term, the Reds’ hopes of reigning over Europe were put to an end, courtesy of a Vinicius Jr. winner at the Parc des Princes.

As a result, the contest between both sides is potentially the tie of the round, with Jurgen Klopp’s men having the golden opportunity of seeking revenge this time around.

However, that is easier said than done, with there being a strong case for Los Blancos being a better version of themselves than last term.

With the La Liga champions crucially discovering how to thrive without the presence of the injured Karim Benzema this term, Carlo Ancelotti’s side arguably pose an even bigger threat now.

As for Liverpool, they are a shadow of their former selves and currently sitting in 8th place are in danger of not even qualifying for the top four this season.

Reacting to the draw, club legend and active pundit, Jamie Carragher sent a special message to Virgil van Dijk.

“Last Liverpool team to beat Real Madrid, 5-0 on aggregate! Hopefully you can keep two clean sheets in the next clash!”, Carragher tweeted while addressing van Dijk, while uploading a picture of himself alongside Liverpool’s side in the 2008/2009 season that battered the Spanish giants.

However, a number of fans from all clubs online believe that the former England international has set out a sly challenge for the Dutchman. After all, the Reds vice-captain recently made headlines for telling Gary Neville on the Overlap that Carragher would not even get into the current Liverpool squad, as previously relayed by HITC.

While one can make what they wish to of the high-profile pundit’s tweet, Virgil van Dijk will most certainly take it as a challenge to keep arguably the best team in Europe at bay.
