Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has again highlighted the team’s problem at left-back as an area that needs solving in the future.

Liverpool are on top form in the Premier League and are now being tipped by many to be in the hunt for the Premier League title.

However, Thommo believes that Liverpool need to address their left-back problems to be successful in the long run: He told Sky Sports:

“I would still think the squad needs strengthening a little bit. Just look at the left-back situation, James Milner deserves massive credit in an area where we lacked options when Alberto Moreno was struggling.”

At the moment Milner has been playing out of position in the role and, in fairness to the player, has been performing brilliantly.

Moreno has certainly got the attacking pedigree down the left-hand side but the Spaniard has proven time and time again that he is perhaps not cut out for defending in the Premier League.

Liverpool are doing just fine at present with Milner in the left-back role but in the future it must surely be a consideration of Jurgen Klopp’s that the side need to bring in a more permanent option.

There are plenty of names that have been linked with a move to Liverpool, including German international Jonas Hector. Come January it will not be a surprise if Liverpool make a move for such a player.
