The Leicester City winger has been linked with a move to Liverpool.
Reds legend John Aldridge urged Jürgen Klopp to sign Foxes ace Riyad Mahrez, when speaking to reporters, suggesting that the Algerian is very similar to Philippe Coutinho, as quoted by the Mirror.
Liverpool will be sitting on a huge pile of cash, once Philippe Coutinho completes his medical at Barcelona, and the proposed £145 million deal is officially wrapped up.
Klopp will surely be looking to strengthen his forward line sooner rather than later, and will need to add some real quality to his ranks, to help soften the blow of the Brazilian ace’s absence.
The 26-year-old Leicester winger is valued at around £50 million, according to the Telegraph, so the Merseyside outfit would be easily capable of tempting the Foxes into selling.
Aldridge explained why the Algeria international would be a good signing for Liverpool, when speaking to reporters, highlighting how he ticks all of the boxes, as quoted by the Mirror:
“If you look at the way Coutinho plays, Mahrez is very similar. He is older, he has played in the Premier League for some years and everybody has seen the ability he has got, so he ticks a lot of boxes.”
With the January transfer window now open and in full swing, this will certainly be one for Reds fans to keep a close eye on, but whether they would be happy with Mahrez as Coutinho’s replacement is debatable to say the least.
