Manchester City have knocked Liverpool off top spot again after Burnley lost today.

John Aldridge of Liverpool FC Legends takes to the field before the match between Liverpool FC Legends and the Australian Legends at ANZ Stadium on January 7, 2016 in Sydney, Australia.

Liverpool legend John Aldridge has praised Burnley on Twitter.

Liverpool fans were hoping and praying that the Clarets could take points off Manchester City today.

But Pep Guardiola’s side groudn out a 1-0 win at Turf Moor to move back above the Reds in top spot in the Premier League table, with two games to go.

Sean Dyche’s side have been battling relegation for much of the season, but Saturday’s results confirmed their safety.

With that in mind, it was a far bigger game for Manchester City than Burnley, who had little to play for, but Liverpool legend Aldridge says that the Turf Moor side didn’t lay down one bit.

Pep Guardiola’s side are only one point ahead of the Anfield outfit with two to play, and here’s Gary Lineker’s reaction to City’s win.

It was indeed a very brave performance by Burnley, who were undone by Sergio Aguero’s winner just after the hour mark.

Guardiola’s troops conclude their season with a visit of Leicester City and a trip to Brighton, while Liverpool visit Newcastle and are home to Wolves on the final day.
