Tony Scott of the Liverpool Echo wasn’t happy with Mohamed Salah’s penalty incident for the Reds against Newcastle.
It’s shaping up to be a superb end to the year for Liverpool fans as their team remains unbeaten in the Premier League, top of the pile, six points clear of second and playing exhilarating football along the way.
The Reds have received another boost in the shape of talisman Mohamed Salah being handed a reprieve following an incident involving him and Newcastle United defender Paul Dummett in their Boxing Day clash.
Early in the second half, Salah went down under pressure from the Magpies man, who came into contact with the Egyptian’s arm, and referee Graham Scott pointed to the spot, allowing Liverpool to double their lead en route to a crushing 4-0 win at Anfield.
On Thursday, it was reported by multiple news outlets including BBC Sport and The Independent that Salah would not be facing action by the Football Association because his reaction did not breach the threshold of “attempting to deceive the referee”.
The forward could have faced a two-match ban, which would have seen him miss crucial league games against Arsenal and Manchester City, but instead it appears as though he will be able to take part, which is a major boost for Jurgen Klopp.
After James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo broke the news on Twitter, Reds legend Jamie Carragher decided to have a bit of a pop at the newspaper’s Everton correspondent, Tony Scott – who had previously compared the Salah incident to that of Oumar Niasse against Crystal Palace 13 months ago:
The Toffees should not feel too down though, as they bounced back from their 6-2 thrashing against Spurs by handing out a 5-1 defeat to Burnley at Turf Moor, remaining in the top 10 of the table in the process.
