A round up of news stories and transfer rumours about Liverpool from the past 24 hours.

Luis Suarez is edging closer to a Barcelona transfer after what the Mirror described as ‘productive talks’ between the Spanish giants and Liverpool. The Nou Camp side are being tipped to sign the Uruguayan in an £80 million deal, with the Reds set to hold out for every penny of that amount.

Southampton defender Dejan Lovren could try and force a move to Anfield, through refusing to show up for pre-season training with the Saints. The Croatian is one of several defenders to be linked with Liverpool, but Southampton will reportedly stand firm over his future.

Liverpool are being tipped to win the race to sign Cardiff City defender Steven Caulker. Caulker was one of the few players in the Bluebirds side to have impressed last season, with former club Tottenham Hotspur also thought to be interested in re-signing him.

The Daily Mail claims Brendan Rodgers is considering a move for Chelsea defender Ryan Bertrand. Should the Blues sign Filipe Luis from Atletico Madrid, the left-back could be forced into a Stamford Bridge exit, with Liverpool needing to address that position in their back four.

Barcelona legend Carles Puyol has backed the Spanish club’s pursuit of Suarez, suggesting he’s simply a great player.

“He’s a great striker. I’ve played against him and he’s really difficult to mark. All the names which are coming out [in the press] are very good,” Puyol is quoted by Sport.

Former Arsenal player Perry Groves has suggested Alexis Sanchez is likely to reject Arsenal in favour of a move to Liverpool, as the two Premier League sides continue to be linked with moves for the Chilean.

“Alexis Sanchez would be a brilliant signing for Arsenal – I think he’ll go to Liverpool though. He’ll be part of the deal that takes Luis Suarez to Barcelona,” he told talkSPORT.

Former Liverpool player Jimmy Case has described new signing Adam Lallana as a ‘gifted’ player. Lallana recently made an Anfield switch in a £25 million deal from Southampton.

“To be honest, I have always had a suspicion they may make a move for Lallana. He is a Brendan Rodgers type of player – Lallana has always been a gifted boy,” he told the Liverpool Echo.
