A daily round-up on all things Liverpool.
The Metro reports that Nuri Sahin is still to make a decision on where his future lies. Liverpool have joined Arsenal in the race to capture the Real Madrid midfielder on loan after the Gunners had been favourite to land the Turkish international. Sahin is said to be attracted by the Merseyside club’s history, but a move to Anfield instead of the Emirates would mean no Champions League football.
Another target for Liverpool is Fulham’s Clint Dempsey and according to the Daily Mail, manager Brendan Rodgers is prepared to use midfielder Charlie Adam as a part of a deal to bring the USA striker to the club. Rodgers hopes the West London club will be tempted by this offer, seeing as they have a space in their midfield after the departure of Danny Murphy to Blackburn Rovers.
Adam is tipped to be the man to drop out of the Liverpool midfield this season – a midfield which will include former Swansea City star, Joe Allen. On the club’s official website, they reveal how former striker Craig Bellamy told Allen to join the reds – this will be something Liverpool must be very thankful to Bellamy for if his Wales and Team GB team-mate shows the form he enjoyed for the Swans last term and during the Olympics.
Allen has sparked this season’s first club vs country row – The Sun explains how Wales manager, Chris Coleman wants to play the midfielder against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Wednesday but Liverpool boss, Rodgers wants to keep Allen rested before their Premier League opener against West Bromich Albion on Saturday. Both parties will want the issue resolved quickly but expect many more of these as the season goes on.
Liverpool enjoyed an comfortable friendly win against Bayer Leverkusen yesterday. They beat the German side 3-1 and 17-year-old Raheem Sterling impressed his manager as he scored his side’s first goal before Lucas and Andy Carroll also got on the score sheet. Sky Sports report how Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo, he was particularly pleased with his movement, imagination and creativity.
BBC Sport mention in their gossip column today that Roberto Mancini and Manchester City remain keen on defender Danile Agger. Rodgers and Liverpool must employ their best efforts to hang onto their Danish centre-back but one thing is for sure, they will not let him leave for less than he his worth.
