Earlier we brought you a preview of Liverpool’s NextGen Series game with Inter Milan. The game against the reigning champions would always prove to be difficult but with many of their star players missing due to Europa League action Inter were expected to win comfortably. That was not the case as Liverpool fought valiantly with Hungarian striker Kristjan Adorjan scoring twice, however it was not enough as they faltered to a 3-2 defeat, but will no doubt take solace in a good performance. Luis Suarez and Patrice Evra are expected to shake hands before the big game this weekend; deciding to put things into perspective by pushing their differences aside in light of the games importance as the first game at Anfield since the Hillsborough revelations of last week. The two were involved in a heated altercation the last time they faced each other after Suarez appeared to deny shaking his hand in light of the racial abuse the Uruguayan exacted on the Frenchman and subsequent charge handed down by the FA onto the Liverpool marksmen. But in a game that will see 96 red balloons released by club captains Steven Gerrard and Nemanja Vidic prior to kick off, one for each life lost in the Hillsborough disaster, it is one subplot that is not needed.
Brendan Rodgers has called in a swathe of young talent into the Europa League squad with Andre Wisdom expected to start at right-back. He is joined in the squad by Adam Morgan, Samed Yesil, Conor Coady, Jon Flanagan, Jack Robinson, Dani Pacheco and Suso as Liverpool look to balance the European competition with their domestic responsibilities. Liverpool take on the ironically named Swiss side BSC Young Boys Bern on Thursday night hoping to get their European campaign off to a better start then their Premier League campaign where they have so far failed to win a game.
Liverpool’s summer signing Fabio Borini has been putting in the extra hours in an attempt to end his goal drought for the club by staying behind after training to do shooting practice. The forward, who played under Brendan Rodgers at Swansea and Chelsea signed after an impressive spell in his homeland with Roma last term which saw him make his international debut. Now it seems he is willing to put in the extra graft in order to score his first Liverpool goal.
