Liverpool are allegedly in talks to sign Karim Adeyemi – and Red Bull Salzburg are securing a replacement in Shakhtar Donetsk ace Fernando.

Reports from Sky Austria broke just a matter of days ago, suggesting that Liverpool are in talks to land Adeyemi.

Borussia Dortmund remain favourites having roughly agreed a €35million (£29million) deal to sign Adeyemi.

Yet with contract talks not yet resolved, Dortmund risk missing out on Adeyemi.

Liverpool, RB Leipzig and Paris Saint-Germain are also thought to be in talks, with Adeyemi a man in demand.

Salzburg have signposted that Adeyemi is on his way out by teeing up a deal to bring in a replacement.

Fabrizio Romano now reports that Salzburg have struck a deal to sign Brazilian attacker Fernando from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Shakhtar are losing a number of their foreign players due to the ongoing conflict with Russia.

Fernando now looks set to leave, with Romano claiming he has been specifically signed to replace Adeyemi.

The deal is worth just €6million (£5million) – a mere fraction of the money they will rake in for Adeyemi.

Fernando, 23, has only managed nine goals in 51 league games for Shakhtar so will need to become more prolific to become a real star.

Adeyemi is clearly heading for a big summer move and Liverpool will have real hope of a deal.

Adeyemi, 20, has smashed 20 goals in 38 games for Salzburg this season, adding five assists too.

A speedy and dynamic forward, Adeyemi seems to fit the profile Liverpool target in the transfer market.

Yet with Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz all fighting for places, do Liverpool need another striker?

That’s debatable, but maybe Liverpool see Adeyemi as a player who is just too good to miss out on – just like Diaz in January.
