The Reds manager is believed to be on the radar of the La Liga side.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has reportedly become Real Madrid’s number one managerial summer target in the wake of Los Blancos’ humiliating Champions League elimination.
The La Liga side saw their three-year stranglehold on Europe’s top trophy broken in exhilarating fashion as Ajax overturned a 2-1 deficit to run out 4-1 winners at the Bernabeu.
Hakim Ziyech, David Neres, Dusan Tadic and Lasse Schone scored amid a feast of scintillating football, while for Real, it is another huge blow in what has already been a dire season.
According to The Independent, Madrid want a manager who restores “excitement and happiness” and without any prior baggage or bad relationship with the players, ergo someone like Klopp.
Understandably, this could cause concern amongst the Liverpool fanbase, but there are several reasons why Klopp is unlikely to up sticks for the Bernabeu.
Firstly, a look at the German’s managerial track record – his CV features just three teams since he began his first-team coaching career at the turn of the century in Mainz 05, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool.
This implies a manager who prefers long-term projects and stability, where he can truly build not so much a team as a dynasty, and where he has a good understanding with the hierarchy and with the fans.
In contrast, Real Madrid have had 16 different managers since the turn of the century, and as seen by Julen Lopetegui’s dismissal earlier this season, the hierarchy and the fans don’t exactly have the reputation for giving coaches plenty time.
According to the Bleacher Report, Klopp already turned down Real once, last summer ahead of their appointment of Lopetegui, which suggests that he’s not only happy where he is now, but also that he doesn’t want to leave until the job is done – that is, the Reds pick up silverware.
