Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has praised goalkeeper Alisson after making ‘sensational’ saves to keep Real Madrid at bay on Wednesday night.

The Reds faced an uphill battle against Real having lost the first leg of their last 16 clash 5-2 at Anfield.

Klopp needed a miracle and didn’t get one as Liverpool failed to break the Real back line.

Karim Benzema then put the tie to bed, giving Real a 1-0 win on the night and a 6-2 aggregate victory.

Liverpool are out and all Klopp and co can now fight for is a spot in next season’s Champions League.

A number of Liverpool players weren’t quite at it in Madrid but Klopp did praise one Liverpool player’s performance.

Jurgen Klopp praises Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson

Klopp told The Independent that goalkeeper Alisson pulled off ‘two sensational saves’ to keep Real Madrid at bay.

“In moments it was a good performance but Real Madrid were the team in control for most of the game. They had the better chances,” said Klopp. “Ali (goalkeeper Alisson Becker) had to make two sensational saves to keep us in the game and that’s the reason (we lost),” he added.

The German picked out two saves from Alisson and we’re guessing he means two in the first half.

Vinicius Junior had a golden chance in the opening 15 minutes, latching onto Antonio Rudiger’s header from inside the six-yard box.

Yet Alisson managed to get himself in position to block his international teammate’s shot from point-blank range.

Just a few minutes later, Alisson was at it again as he denied Eduardo Camavinga from race, tipping his shot onto the woodwork.

Those were great saves but Alisson did make another couple of the break, saving from Federico Valverde and Karim Benzema at 0-0.

This was another example of just why Alisson is considered to be one of the top goalkeepers in world football.

It wasn’t to be for Liverpool on the night but Alisson is one player the Reds can be confident in moving forward.

Changes may well be coming this summer as Liverpool look to get back to their best, but you can be sure that Alisson will be staying put and no doubt frustrating opponents again.
