Liverpool beat Inter Milan 2-0 on Wednesday night, with Gary Lineker heaping praise on boss Jurgen Klopp for his management during the game.

With a place in the last eight up for grabs, Liverpool were hoping for a positive night at the San Siro.

It took a while for Liverpool to get the opener but it did come eventually, with Roberto Firmino glancing an inch-perfect header into the net.

Mohamed Salah added a second to secure the win, with Liverpool taking a 2-0 lead back to Anfield.

You would understand if Liverpool thought they had one foot in the quarter-finals, but Jurgen Klopp absolutely won’t think like that.

Klopp is relentless, just like his team. The German is always striving for better, and he had key decisions to make on Wednesday night.

It started with Ibrahima Konate and Harvey Elliott landing spots in the starting line-up, which few would have predicted with any great confidence.

Klopp then had to deal with an injury to Diogo Jota, with substitute Firmino coming on to score the opener.

On the hour mark, Liverpool boss Klopp made a bold triple substitution. Elliott, Fabinho and Sadio Mane all came off, with Naby Keita, Jordan Henderson and Luis Diaz coming on.

That changed the flow of the game in Liverpool’s favour, and the opening goal came just 15 minutes later.

That’s what Klopp is paid to do – make the big calls at the big moments in big games. On Wednesday, Klopp pretty much got them right.

That wasn’t lost on Match of the Day host Gary Lineker, who took to Twitter to praise Klopp.

Lineker praised ‘great changes’ from Klopp, who could see that Liverpool were struggling and made the right switches to sort the issues.
